Researchers from the ASCEND – Portia Adade Williams, Luckson Zvobgo, and Christopher Trisos – have contributed to a new report on the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), offering critical input into how the world measures and advances climate adaptation efforts.
The GGA, established under the Paris Agreement, is designed to enhance climate resilience and adaptive capacity worldwide. However, translating this ambition into action requires a shared understanding of what progress looks like. The report, shaped by insights from the Climate Risk Lab team, makes the case for a global framework of indicators to consistently track adaptation progress and close adaptation gaps.
Drawing on findings from the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report Cycle, the document highlights how global indicators can be used to align national and international adaptation responses with science-based targets. The report also explores the practical challenges of implementation, particularly in low-income and climate-vulnerable regions.
Developed in collaboration with CSIR-Ghana and CGIAR, the report also forms the basis of a policy brief aimed at practitioners and policymakers, offering actionable insights on how to steer global adaptation efforts effectively and equitably.
